Not the size of the fortune — the generosity of it. This ranks the living by the ratio of wealth created for others to wealth kept for themselves: each company's value held by everyone else, divided by the founder's own slice. A founder who kept 1% created ninety-nine times as much for the world as for themselves; one who kept 40% barely cleared even.
